Top 3 Cols to conquer…
Col de Ramaz
Distance – 16km
Elevation gain – 970m
A stunning climb starting from Taninges that winds up steadily, becoming steep and alpine after around 8km. There are fantastic views as you cycle along the edge of a cliff leading up to the Praz de Lys ski resort, giving impressive views over to Mont Blanc.
Col de Joux Plane
Distance – 11km
Elevation gain – 989m
This is one of the most notorious road biking climbs around, and it starts in the beautiful town of Samoens. A tough climb due to its steepness not its length, the beginning and middle sections are graded well into the teens.
Col de Colombière
Distance – 16.3km
Elevation gain – 1108m
The fairly moderate start from Cluses makes you think it will be a nice steady climb up… don’t be fooled. After the first section it gets steeper and more demanding, opening up into bright green mountain pastures. It’s the last kilometer that is the toughest, with an incline of over 10%!
